With P790, TaylorMade's craftsmen have come up with a solution for the challenge of crafting a forged iron that offers incredible distance as well as increased playability and feel - within a refined shape which is preferred by discerning players. The P790's hollowed speed pocket uses SpeedFoam Technology, a new unique construction, which serves a two purpose's; maximising ball speeds as well as optimizing sound and feel. squeezed within the clubhead cavity, SpeedFoam provides the face support and sound-damping properties that make the performance of the P790 unlike any other iron in the TaylorMade family.

The inclusion of the wrap around face construction creates a cut through Speed Pocket on the sole with extreme flexibility in the lower part of the club face; it is the flexibility that gives greater forgiveness and more consistency than is usually seen in a distance iron design. The club also features an ultra-thin 1.75mm face thickness with re-engineered Inverted Cone Technology optimised for the slightly smaller face area. The new and smaller Inverted Cone allows for less face thickness at the edges of the face, which increases flexibility from heel to toe and low on the club face, resulting in more ball speed across the entire face.

For great forgiveness and an incredible playability, P790 irons feature strategically placed internal tungsten weighting for exact CG placement and a higher moment of inertia.
