Scottish golfer Russell Knox has qualified for his first US Open after sharing first place in a sectional qualification tournament at Woodland Country Club in Rockville, Maryland.
The 27-year-old Scot based in Florida won on the Nationwide Tour, the Chiquita Classic in 2011, the same year he gained his PGA Tour card.
Knox finished tied 28th at the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, his best result of the season so far.
After finishing 143rd in the money list in 2012, Knox has conditional status on the PGA Tour this year.
It means he is also playing on the Web.com Tour, where he recorded a 12th-placed finish at the Mexico Championship.
Knox's success takes the number of Scots who will be competing at the US Open to four.
Of his qualification Knox said, “I’ve been sort of close to erupting”. “My game is right there. I hadn’t gotten anything going but I know how close I am to playing really good. I tell myself to be patient.”
He may be right, Knox has finished 15th or higher in four of his last Web.com Tour starts and has shot under-par in 17 of his last 23 rounds.
Knox joins fellow Scots Chris Doak, who qualified last week at Wentworth, Paul Lawrie and Martin Laird.
