Paul McGinley: Team Europe is ready for battle

There’s no chance of mixed messages coming out of the Europe team camp as the Ryder Cup nears its beginning, with Captain Paul McGinley insisting that his players are “in good shape.”

Europe come into the tournament in the midst of a real hot streak against the US, having won five of the last six meetings. They can also boast four of the world’s five best players among their ranks, helping to make up their 12-man team.

However, McGinley is adamant that his side will not become over confident when they take on a “strongly motivated” US side.

"We're in good shape we're all very excited," he told BBC Sport. "Some players are playing this week who I am having dinner with tonight along with their caddies and other guys are preparing across the world.

"I'm under no illusions, if we don't win the Ryder Cup it won't be because of complacency, we know it's going to be a strongly motivated American team. This is not a case of turning up, this is going to be very difficult. We will be absolutely ready for this."
